Close to 9 million Afghans are at risk of famine. At the end of November 2021, 98% of the Afghan population did not have enough food to eat, an increase of 17% over the period preceding summer 2021. As of March 2022, 23 million people are in a state of acute hunger, up from 14 million in July 2021; 41% of children under the age of five years old face stunted growth.
REESHA is convinced that hunger lies at the core of human suffering. REESHA sponsors monthly food provisions for internally displaced families suffering from extreme poverty. This crucial support helps bring children who face acute malnourishment or are on the verge of famine out of the hunger crisis, undermining the ability of human traffickers and organ merchants to prey on vulnerable populations as extreme measures are no longer necessary for survival.
