Since 2021, over 3.5 million Afghans have been displaced from their provincial homes, driven to seek refuge and protection in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital city. After years of economic hardship and conflict, families across the country have been rent asunder, forcing women, children and elderly people to assume breadwinner and caregiver responsibilities and fend for themselves.
Deprived of food, shelter, and basic necessities for survival, many of these newly displaced children, mothers, and elderly caregivers are experiencing untold suffering. This has turned Afghanistan into what the UN describes as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis at this moment.
